Halloween is in the rear view, but two very sweet pics arrived in the Navy Times inbox that require sharing. These images show Addie, the 7-year-old  daughter of Senior Chief Air Traffic Controller (AW/SW) Kevin Kruse and Wendy McCoy Kruse, decked out in an aircraft carrier costume. Addie, in aquaflage no less, serves as the ship’s island while the rest of the flattop is built around her wheelchair. “The sounds of ‘Anchors Aweigh’ playing as she strolled the neighborhood in the USS Addie made for the best Halloween ever!” Wendy wrote in a message to Navy Times. The Navy spouse…

When the destroyer Winston S. Churchill returned home to Norfolk, Va., on Thursday, families cheered and reunited after nine months apart. For Construction Mechanic 2nd Class Jeff Reyes, seeing his family wasn’t just a reunion — it was a first meeting. During the deployment to Europe and the Middle East, the destroyer covered more than 56,000 nautical miles and conducted more than 1,000 hours of flight operations, according to a Navy news release. The destroyer also responded to an emergency at sea, saving the life of a civilian mariner in August. One crew member on the civilian motor vessel Belde…

First, check out this story about five Navy wives who won a trip to Los Angeles and the Hollywood star treatment, just in time for the Academy Awards, thanks to the syndicated daytime talk show “LIVE with Kelly and Michael.” They call themselves the “P-3 Pretties,” and their story of friendship in the face of service-driven separation makes it easy to understand how they distanced themselves from thousands of other entrants. (Navy Times subscribers read that story days ago. Seriously, don’t make us beg.) Next, click here to see the videos that aired on “LIVE” as part of the run-up…

They say it takes a village to raise a child, but how about a Navy cruiser raising six? Six sailors aboard cruiser Hué City have added a new member to the family, according to The Florida Times-Union. Four were born within two days of each other; the other two new additions followed shortly after. Technology has allowed the five proud fathers and one grandfather to show off photos of their bundles of joy on deck almost immediately. One was even able to hear his son’s first cries over the telephone. Scoop Deck got a hold of these first photos of…

Adm. William McRaven, the nation’s top special operator, and Navy spouse Adrienne Howard will join first lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden for tonight’s State of the Union address, the White House announced today. The invitations honor veteran Navy SEAL McRaven, commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, who as commander of Joint Special Operations Command had operational control of the Obama administration’s signature moment in the war on terror — the May 1, 2011, killing of Osama bin Laden in his Pakistan hideout — on the occasion of the SEALs’ 50th anniversary, being marked this week.  It also honors Navy spouses…

The Naval Health Research Center is looking to enroll more than 10,000 military spouses in a new study of military family health. The Department of Defense Millennium Cohort Family Study aims for a more comprehensive understanding of how military families are coping with military life after nearly a decade at war. The new study is the fourth part of the ongoing Millennium Cohort Study, being conducted by the Deployment Health Research Department at the Naval Health Research Center.  Officials say the study, which began in 2001, is the largest prospective health project in military history. It’s not open to everyone. The…
