'CAPT Titus ROCKS!!!!'

Some friends of a fired CO are rallying support online. Check out this Facebook page named “Support Capt. John Titus,” in honor of the commanding officer of the Navy Supply Corps School who was relieved of command on Jan. 8. The page creators want people to send letters of endorsement to the chief of naval personnel to consider along with Titus’ detached for cause package. Michael Aldrich, a supply officer with a Facebook page, posts on the wall “CAPT Titus ROCKS!!!!” That’s the fired CO himself up there (second from the left) in a photo from the groundbreaking for the new supply…

It’s probably a good thing that NASA’s pool of astronauts include quite a few military officers. Who better to understand the “hurry up and wait” lifestyle that is the military? We told you last month about preparations for the planned June 13 launch of the space shuttle Endeavour, whose seven-member crew of space sailors, including only the second Navy SEAL to ever venture into space, will do a 16-day mission that will haul parts of Japan’s Kibo laboratory to the International Space Station. Lots of times when Navy officials travel, they don’t actually pay for the trips. Instead, it’s business, associations and foreign governments that pick up the tab. Check out this site here that shows all the trips taken by Navy officials and who paid for them. Just plug in “Navy” or “Naval” in the “Base or Office” search box. (…$5,299 to fly to London and attend the Historic Naval Ships Association Conference in 2006? That’s good work if you can get it.)

Military space geeks, take note

Today marks the final week counting down to the scheduled launch of space shuttle Endeavour, whose seven-member crew of space sailors is yet another “purple” multi-service representation, including a Navy SEAL. Endeavour is scheduled for a 7:17 a.m. EDT liftoff on Saturday, June 13, from Launch Pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center, Fla. The 16-day mission of STS-127 marks the final flight hauling parts of Japan’s Kibo Laboratory to the International Space Station. One of the mission specialists is Navy Cmdr. Christopher Cassidy(below), a SEAL and decorated Afghanistan veteran who will ride Endeavour on his first flight into space. Hooyah!…
