Note to parents of young girls: Do not click on the following video if your child is in the room. High-pitched screaming could result. For those a few generations behind, here’s a primer: No, the New Kids on the Block didn’t regroup, get younger and get British (and/or Irish). That’s pop-megagroup One Direction, the latest ridiculously popular boy band, in a teaser for the upcoming video “Kiss You,” soon to melt a YouTube hit counter near you. The boys — Harry, Liam, Louis, Niall, Tito, Jermaine, Lance, Justin, Danny, Jordan, Joey, Ringo and Zayn — are dressed in sailor…

Even though he’ll be flying by sleigh, Santa will get an assist this Christmas from service members who spend time on the sea. This year, 40 Santa-trackers who identify themselves as “Navy” will help children all over the world know when Santa is coming, so they can get to sleep before he arrives, according to Marisa Novobilski, a public affairs officer with the North American Aerospace Defense Command. Counting the family members who often help with the tracking and Navy retirees, Novobilski estimated that at least 100 Navy-affiliated volunteers will help answer calls and emails in the NORAD Tracks Santa…

This weekend’s big military sporting event comes Saturday in Philadelphia. But this weekend’s big military sports-entertainment event comes Sunday afternoon in Norfolk, Va., when World Wrestling Entertainment packs the Norfolk Scope Arena with thousands of active-duty service members and their families for its yearly “Tribute to the Troops” event. Planning to attend? Wondering what your kids have gotten you into? Here’s a quick primer: 1. Tickets still available. Early this week, sailors waited in line, sometimes up to 90 minutes, for free tickets to the event at various locations throughout the Hampton Roads area. Now, the only way to get…

NavyTimes.com readers already know the WWE is heading to Norfolk, Va., on Dec. 9 for its annual “Tribute to the Troops” mega-show. (Navy Times subscribers knew earlier. Just saying.) When the event was announced, Navy officials weren’t sure how or when the free tickets would be distributed. But a Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Facebook post has some answers: Tickets to the event are available only to active-duty service members and their families, and eligible wrestling fans can stop by their local Information, Tickets and Travel office beginning Monday to pick them up. For more information, call 757-462-5337. There’s also a list…

ABC has cancelled the submarine-treason drama “Last Resort,” but while fans won’t get a second season, they’ve been promised one heck of a finale. “We’re going to give you no-holds barred kick-ass ending,” series co-creator Shawn Ryan tweeted shortly after the news broke. He also confirmed the show will complete its 13-episode run. In a wide-ranging interview with “Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show,” cited by The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan addressed everything from the show’s time slot (“brutal”) to problems with certain demographics (“There was a military aspect to the show that research showed kept some women at a distance”) to what…

With the ABC drama “Last Resort” on life support, it appeared fans of Navy-themed television shows were stuck with Agent Gibbs and the folks at “NCIS,” “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “NCIS: SVU,” “NCIS: 90210,” and so on. But fear not — the young-adult-oriented CW network is saving the day. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network and the production group behind “NCIS” will partner to create a new Navy drama, dubbed “Norfolk.” The report says the show “revolves around the lives and loves of the young people at the Norfolk Naval Station.” Think of it as “Melrose Place,” only with more…

ABC’s submarine-themed drama may be close to scraping bottom. Fans of “Last Resort” — which features the crew of a ballistic-missile sub, nuclear warhead detonations, a fictional island in the Indian Ocean and a few treason charges for good measure — got good news last week when the network ordered two more scripts in addition to the series’ planned 13-episode run. But an extended script order isn’t the same as a renewal for a second season — it doesn’t even guarantee those extra shows will be produced. And it doesn’t address the show’s ratings slide: Thursday’s show scored a 1.3…

We’ve already shown you one Katy Perry-themed YouTube video, in which Super Hornet pilot Lt. Clayton Heyward offers to take the pop star to the West Coast Hornet Ball next month. It’s got all the basics for an online hit — parody-song backing, costume changes, cutaways to Futurama characters, etc. Navy Times subscribers (again, don’t make us beg) got a little more about the video this week, including some remarks from the man himself. The video’s surpassed 30,000 views — an impressive figure, but nowhere near the Perry-themed video that went up a few days ago and aired on Comedy…

In cases like this, it’s probably best to let the video speak for itself: The guy sitting on the plane in the above screen grab (and, in the clip’s opening shot, fixing a fence with a rake while wearing a tuxedo and drinking a martini; we told you it’s best to let the video speak for itself) is F-18 pilot Lt. Clayton Heyward. His YouTube proposal to superstar recording artist Katy Perry — in the form of a parody song set to her hit “E.T.” — is a simple one: Make the trip from Hollywood to Fresno, Calif., and…

Just because a few nuclear missiles get launched doesn’t mean everybody’s paying attention. The ABC-TV submarine-based drama “Last Resort” premiered Thursday to “OK” or “soft” ratings, depending on which Hollywood-industry website you’re reading, drawing a 2.2 rating and a 7 share in the coveted 18-49 demographic. That put the premiere third in its time slot, below CBS comedy “The Big Bang Theory” and FOX talent show “The X Factor,” according to final ratings released Friday. Finishing below a top-rated sitcom and a Simon Cowell-judged karaoke contest may not sound all that bad, but the “Last Resort” numbers are just slightly…
