121013-N-ZZ999-002 GULF OF ADEN (Oct. 13, 2012) – Culinary Specialist 2nd Class Jakeila Owens stands proudly by the cake she created commemorating the 237th birthday of the U.S. Navy aboard multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7). The cake was made from 220 eggs, 47 cups of water, 40 pounds of flour, 40 pounds of sugar, 2 1/2 cups of non fat milk, 15 pounds of shortening, 1 pound, 4 ounces of baking powder, 1 cup, 4 tablespoons of salt, and 20 ounces of vanilla. The theme for the cake was “past & present” and displayed a miniature model of the USS Constitution and today’s Navy NWU’s. Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group and embarked 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit are deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
